Shikhumba Marathon is a project with a mission to instil our sense of self-love in others. We have started this initiative to assist in Community Development and Non - Profit Organizations among others. The event has attracted top runners like Ludwick Mamabolo; the winner of Comrades Marathon 2012, Rufus Photo, who is Comrades Marathon multiple Gold Medallist, Collen Mulaudzi who is a top runner and many more.
Shikhumba Marathon is a charity event and it is also depending on the sponsors. We have already established such an event and would like to build a promotional partnership that is mutually beneficial to both the event and sponsor. It is logistically impossible to charge spectators to attend and observe a Marathon, so races must have sponsor support in addition to entry fees in order to put on the quality events that runners seek out.
We have earned a reputation as Limpopo's most beautiful Marathon since 2015. The race has become a regional institution, a firm favourite with local athletes and others from Provinces like Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Participants can choose from various distances - 42.2km Marathon, 21.1km Half Marathon, 10km Marathon and the 5km Fun Runs. The event attracts close to 5 000 participants across all the distances and provides them with a mixture of breathtaking scenery, a gruelling test of fitness for both the elite and recreational runner, and an unrivalled race organisation and atmosphere.
Local Participants consistently vote it as one of the best events in Limpopo Province and it continues to attract strong fields and an increasing number of top experienced athletes. En-route entertainment on race day provides fun, excitement, and a unique experience to runners, family, friends, and spectators alike.
Our best interest is to grow the Shikhumba Marathon to the level of Comrades Marathon, and through the support we are getting from Xikhumba filling station, this hectic job looks a lot easier for us to accomplish. For the past years, Genesis Emergency Services, Paradise Film, Dr Mbombi and Shikhumba Filling Station have been our strong hold to have a successful event.
Our Vision is to stage the biggest Marathon Event in the Limpopo region and be an iconic brand associated with world-class sporting events that benefit all stakeholders. We want to host world-class sporting events for the benefit of the communities around the Greater Giyani Municipality and all our other stakeholders.
